No surprise the conference wasn't all that helpful, given the use of "commodity" in the title. I would suggest that if farmers want to find the root of the problem, it lies in that very word that reduces a process dependent on nature to a degree very little else is to a "commodity"—something to be exploited for profit first. Yes, of course, profit must be made, but is it really what should be the main focus with little to no regard for what effect how it's generated has on the source of the product?
